Exciting Day Trips to Enjoy from Zagreb

City life can be boring, especially if you’re looking to explore more than just tourist attractions and restaurants around the area. While Zagreb has a lot of history and culture to offer, there are plenty of beautiful spots, enchanting villages that are a short distance away from the city which will make for wonderful day trips. Whether you’re solo or with a partner, each location will give you something beautiful to discover.


Istria is approximately 230km away from Zagreb taking about 2 hours 45 minutes if you're renting a car. Besides the Old Town and harbor views, the UNESCO heritage-listed Euphrasian Basilica complex is also a must-visit. There are several Roman ruins around the village making it a history lovers paradise.

Plitvice Lakes

Get the Bali vibes in Zagreb without breaking the bank. All you need to do is drive 130km away to Plitvice Lakes. The National Park has the popular Veliki Slap waterfall, forest trails, and boat rides to enjoy. This spot gives you a feeling of being in the countryside enjoying time in nature. Kumrovec is a fantastic place to visit if you want to experience the village life in Croatia. Just to the north of Zagreb, roughly 75 minutes or 60km away is a small village with just over 40 historic buildings that are well preserved. If you're looking for a quiet and quaint picturesque town not crowded with locals or tourists, then Osijek should be your destination of choice. It's roughly 300km or 3 hours away from Zagreb making it perfect for a quick day trip or a long weekend getaway. The Old Town, the colorful architecture & baroque and art nouveau buildings make for an excellent postcard!

Trakoscan Castle

Dating back to the 13th century, Trakoscan Castle is one beautiful spot you can't miss out on. It's 80km from Zagreb city taking you a quick 90 mins to drive to. With restoration work done to replace the castle to its former glory, the views of the castle and the scenery here are without a doubt unmatched. Take a tour and you won't be sorry.
